Japan Cell-Phone Users Turn to Literature

Link

This is slightly ironic as part of the motivation for building faster cell phone networks is to send video and other rich media to handsets.

Let’s see if this works…

Calendars on blogs

Many blogs today are superfluous. They have all kinds of extras on every page – photo albums, music players, and calendars are some examples. One good design decision that the designers of the latest WordPress release made was not including the calendar by default. On his blog Josh Staiger considers the usefulness of the calendar and concludes that it really isn’t that important. For a blog like Mayron.net that isn’t updated consistently a calendar would distract from usability.

Another common design that I would like to see become a thing of the past is the long list of archives (usually by month) that are included on many blogs. On Mayron.net this list is given its own page (click “Archives” under “Pages” in the narrow column) if users are interested. Eventually this list gets too long and unwieldly. I’ve replaced the space formerly occupied by that list with summaries of some live RSS feeds.

Updated site design

I’ve updated the site design quite a bit. Now the entire page is follows the random color theme. The page will be a different color each time you load it. Additionally, a rnadom image is displayed on the home page. If you click on this image it will change to another one (so far there are 61 images that can be displayed).

New site design!

Welcome to the new design of Mayron.net. Finally, Mayron.net is powered by its own database and WordPress. The design is very different from the previous version but all meaningful content and functionality persists in the new edition. The header image changes to a random program each time you load the page thanks to a small script I wrote (the design is generally the popular “Kubrick” theme).

This is a very interesting site that lets you type in the name of a musician or band and it will map out related artists.
